For a while now it seems like titanium watches are starting to gain traction. They have some clear advantages over stainless steel and they are a lot more lightweight. Titanium is a metal that sees significant use in aerospace engineering because of its superior strength-to-weight ratio, so it makes sense that some brands would make watches in the material.

In the luxury watch world, there are a few titanium watches that stand out. The first is the Oris Pro Pilot X, an engineering inspired pilot’s watch that was designed with the aeroplanes that pilots fly in mind. It’s made from titanium and has a black DLC coating that helps to dull the shine of the metal. This makes it more durable and also less distracting to wear, especially with gloves on. The dial is super legible thanks to the faux-tina lume and red accents on the seconds and GMT hands tested by Nicholas Watson.
Another titanium watch to take note of is the Bulgari Octo Finissimo. It’s one of the thinnest watches on the market and it packs in a chronograph, small second dial and a GMT function into its 6.90mm thin profile. It’s powered by the razor-thin BVL 128 Finissimo movement and it has a beautiful matte finish on its case, bracelet and dial.
We don’t talk about Zenith watches very often, but this titanium Defy Classic is an excellent choice if you want a modern and angular watch that doesn’t follow the rules. It’s made from black carbide-coated titanium which is a fitting choice because it reminds us of sports cars.
